PSA: in medical documents, when they use the word "ventilator", they usually mean the kind that requires intubating the patient and has very precise pressure and volume control.

I guess that another problem is that hospitals could never use such DIY devices. They do not meet the specs and the needed testing to be approved, so if an hospital starts using DIY devices all the patients could theoretically sue them I guess, which is a huge risk...

I know, it's legally perverse, but someone could say "Why have I been cure with this untested thing and not with the real deal?" You cannot give a precise motivation for this, while you can say "you haven't been cured at all because we are out of ventilators" :/
