I used to think I’d go stir crazy living in a remote area, seeing basically nobody but family, only going out for grocery runs or nature walks. Turns out I love it. I haven’t been this relaxed in ages. Rural life with Internet is way better than I thought.

My own social mishgash is that I never want to bother anyone who’s “busy”, and as I get older more of my peers are Busy People with Serious Jobs, so I can’t bring myself to say hi no matter how fun it is to spend time with them.

(By symmetry, it stands to reason that some people feel that way about *me*...which only worsens the situation.)

More people in the dreaded suburbs do have children & you've hit upon why.

I hesitate to be “yay suburbs” because they’re *so* ugly though. I don’t know if there’s an inherent reason the US can’t have nice vernacular architecture affordably, I don’t know urban planning, but it’s the one thing that bugs me.
