If I wanted to actually live out here, I’d need to learn some new skills (mostly driving + shop-class stuff) but those seem attainable. Five years ago I was really bitter and jealous of people with the maintenance skills to be homeowners but my in-laws make it look easy.

give it a couple weeks, when you start to realize you can’t go hang out with people who share your interests.

I really couldn’t do that in the Bay Area either. It’s tough to go hang out when you have a kid. Mostly I’m feeling relief from the stress of FOMO + social anxiety around “can I take my kid here or will he be disruptive?”

Rural life in times of quarantine is the best. All the good things about living in a city are cancelled now.

Rural life with internet is great! The downsides I experience are mostly that I have to drive a couple of times a week and internet options where I am are very limited (working on that one though).
