The opposite of seriousness would be frivolity: not taking dangers seriously, dicking around with superficial matters, fiddling while Rome burns.

I think the opposite of seriousness is LARPing, and often it manifests as taking things *too* seriously. People want to be living in the midst of consequential events: it’s always The Most Important Election Of Our Lifetimes, fascism is always on the doorstep, etc.

No, and as you say, they don’t know when they’re full of shit. I do not think it is possible for people to know when they are full of shit, but it is possible for them to know that they do not know! And it would be progress.

Or: it is possible to know when you are, but it is not possible to know when you aren't. The risk is that thinking that because you recognize (a subset of) the occasions when you are, that it is reliable for telling you when you aren't.
