There's also a (probably false?) belief you might call "descriptive individualism" -- the theory that other people, or external circumstances, can't have *any* effect on your mind that you can't undo, in one motion, "at will".

I just want to say that I've very much enjoy reading your thoughts on these things. They are just the right amount different from my thoughts that it's interesting and thought provoking. Similar enough though that I have little to say at this point but this.

You might like The Myth if the Closed Mind (I did) - shows how so much unreason is actually rational. No one is fundamentally closed to criticism. (Also, self interested reasoning is rational, advertisements don’t change minds, and more).
