I guess we are different? Often “I should do X” works immediately. “I should empty the dishwasher”, and then I empty the dishwasher. “I should ask my kid if he wants food”, and then I ask. Like does the “should” statement cause the action? I think only sort of. I think me remembering to do it is pretty causal—sometimes I forget these things—and the remembering to do it can show up as a “should”.
