I do think our society is too hostile to *non-depressed* negative emotions. Normally, when something bad happens, a person wants to either fix the problem, go be alone, or seek comfort from others. But instead, contemporary America pathologizes all three responses.

(Seeking comfort is “needy”, seeking solitude is “antisocial”, and putting all your focus on trying to figure out what’s making you miserable and fix it makes you “unproductive” because it’s not doing your dayjob.)
