Common threads: the obvious questions to ask as a human are "who are we? where did we come from? what is the brain/mind doing? what's up with living and interacting in groups? how can we intervene on any of these systems to get more of what we want and less of what we don't?"

a strong signal of sincere curiosity is that someone is tackling one of the basic human questions, in a tactical/tractable/gears-level way. Opining about the human condition or obsessing over an arcane detail of dubious intrinsic interest is less likely to signal being My People.

oh, also, a (realistic and skeptical) interest in "better than well" health and cognitive improvement. (Nootropics; caring about air, light, and sleep quality; emotional healing and movement/posture techniques).

knowing that solar power is cheap and getting cheaper is (for now) a good signal that you're paying attention to the fundamental prerequisites for industrial civilization and that you aren't limited by "save the environment"/"make a profit" dichotomies.

Noticing or drawing insight from low-tech “stupid human tricks” about the sensorimotor system: the mirror box, the “sensory trick” for dystonia, rhythmic entrainment, the fact that different parts of the body are close in sensory cortex (like feet + genitals or palate + spine.)
