Some say that strong insular communities (SIC) must be suppressed, as they are dangerous; when people have stronger allegiance to SIC than to their city, state, etc. they have lower allegiance to taxes, law enforcement, etc. Which can let bad things happen.

This attitude seems itself dangerous to me, leading to the squashing of all strong positive feelings toward anything not closely aligned with the state.

Related: if you call someone a “cult leader” when they have no more influence over their “followers” than a therapist, clergyman, teacher, or boss, then you’re using an authoritarian double standard.
