I'm not sure this is bad though? Are we sure that "beefing" isn't just the sign of people having more leisure and using it in the way people like best, by squabbling, relatively bloodlessly?

This is a really interesting take; thank you! I will ruminate upon it. My first thought is: political instincts evolved for life in Dunbar-sized bands can be massively maladaptive when scaled up. (Any thoughts about that?)

I genuinely don't know if macro-scale stuff (like which politicians get elected) is made worse by the IoB than it was before.

It does seem true that it's harder for people who do "intellectual inquiry" and "high quality" talk to find each other if most comms channels are full of "low quality" talk. But the solution to that seems like it would *not* involve ending the existence of the IoB.
