You know that Derek Sivers heuristic “Hell Yeah! or No”? I’ve been having good success with the opposite: “Hell No! or Yes.” People seem to appreciate a forceful refusal with legit reasoning (shades of “disagree but commit”, but with trivial “commit” part= wishing good luck)

Otoh, when I do say yes, it’s with strong curb-your-enthusiasm moderation of expectations on both sides. I find I can’t do anything under pressure of hyped up enthusiasm, expectations and hustle energy. It leads to “overmotivated underachievement” as some book I read called it
