I have a lot of criticisms of big pharma companies, but buying components from other companies does not itself make you a rent seeker! A pharma company buying preclinical IP is in principle the same kind of thing as a car manufacturer buying steel.

Perhaps, if you consider IP in principle similar to steel. I consider IP (patents in particular) an illegitimate regulation. So in my conception, it’s more similar to a car manufacturer buying the exclusive right to produce cars from steel.

There’s a lot of nuance to this topic; I see a legacy of many injustices that have resulted in a world where researchers are subordinate to financiers
