If you’re consistently alienating the people you need to cooperate with, that’s a social skills problem; and even extroverts or people with a lot of charisma and polish can have that problem.

Conversely, you can cultivate a loving family, build true friendships, and earn the respect of work colleagues, while being a total fucking weirdo; and that means you have *good* social skills.

Yes, but if you use that definition of social skills to, say, hire people with “good social skills”, or “try to improve your social skills”, you are gonna have a bad time.

Indeed. I’m in the latter category, I think? It really depends on the context. Some social tasks I do well at, some I do not, but in both I’m not exactly your normal duck. People often seem to like me, but I’m also not good at job interviews.
