Anybody have a good book recommendation for the uncontroversial basics of finance? Eg I learned about the Kelly Criterion from a friend, which suggests there’s a lot of other stuff at that elementary a level that I still don’t know.

Like “Economics for Engineers” with the quotes on has long been an undergraduate course in college But is that textbook at all what you’re looking for? It should surface the Kelly Criterion, but like for exercising stock options, not for going deep into arbitrage ~pic.twitter.com/uMcKes9l4s

I mean the stuff that an old-fashioned banker, like from before banking was a “hot” industry, would have known as a matter of course about what makes a good investment or credit risk. What would George Bailey from It’s A Wonderful Life have known about finance?

This guy is good, are these the topics you have in mind? http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~adamodar/New_Home_Page/webcastvalonline.htm … I haven't read his book "damodaran on valuation" but the stuff on the web I found useful when I was getting into it
