This article gives an average fee of $1M and wait time of 40 months for a manufacturer to be approved to sell a generic drug. And that's just the fee to the FDA -- it doesn't include the cost of running human studies (which can cost tens of millions) or other compliance costs.https://twitter.com/aclough/status/1184486748321189888 …

This has been tried. The FDA has a postal inspection service that seizes international shipments that don’t comply with their regulations. Since that happens behind the scenes, it’s difficult to raise an outcry about it.

Given the funding constraints of the FDA, I’m surprised they have enough inspectors to foil a well-funded, determined opponent.

You are "seeing through" the whole system (ignoring labels, only looking at what happens; going through several layers of abstractions). I think most people won't (can't?) do this even if they have the knowledge; it's simply not how they think.

Thank you, I think? I’m not sure what I’m doing that’s unusual though. (Yes, I’m proposing civil disobedience, which scares a lot of people; but if it’s ever appropriate, it’s appropriate for saving lives.)
