glanced at r/streamentry again last night, looking for guides on metta I still don't understand seeking the *total* absence of "craving" as indicated in their beginner guide it feels critical to *remaining alive,* to have tension between what you want and what you have

a quote comes to mind, can't remember where I heard it "desire is a contract with yourself to be unhappy until you get what you want" and this seems wrong it also *seems* to be an implicit assumption underlying suffering as it's described in meditation guides
