Sometimes I have a crazy intuition like “if people just categorically refused to work with anybody who seemed untrustworthy or “fake” or trying to take advantage, the world would be better.”

I sympathize with this thread but can't see a way around these two problems: 1. Lots of functionally amoral people are really good at their jobs / highly productive on net, and some of them are worth learning from 2. It's costly (as you note) to credibly signal positive-sumness

If you think, in your best judgment, they are net contributors to the world, you shouldn't ostracize them! This is mostly a positive-sum vs. zero-sum thing, not a "sinner vs. innocent" thing.
