https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/074873049701200205 … very weird: nonhuman primate lives 9-10 seasonal photoperiod cycles (days getting short and then long again) and if you speed up those cycles its lifespan drops 30%. If you slowed down the photoperiod cycle could you *increase* lifespan?!

Big if true because it would mean that aging is happening on purpose, which means there is an off-switch switch for it But then why don't people on the equator already live forever? The equator has no photoperiod variation ... right?

It suggests that at least part of the ageing process is not a consequence of deterioration but adaptation to different strategies appropriate to different stages of life - which probably also includes the geriatric stage
