I suspect that senescence is not a design shortcoming, but planned obsolescence to facilitate generational change. It is not implausible that the timing of senescence may be influenced by somehow counting years.

Re-creating the solar environment with higher fidelity than existing products in a way that is compatible with modern lifestyles/environment is a trillion dollar opportunity if that's correct. Otherwise, it might only be a $10-100b opportunity.

I wonder if part of this cycle thing is dietary effects related to circadian rhythms and food timing / gut related chemistry. I know all my longevity genes also seem to play a role with my chronic non-24 disorder. Doesn't seem to mention food/energy intake in the abstract.
