What’s the difference here? Passive vs evangelical civility? Belief/Civility as mutual belief norm as opposed to common knowledge metanorm?

*having* civility vs. *being* a civility fan. Like "valuing lower crime" vs. "being a Law and Order voter".

I don’t get what you mean by being a “civility fan”... what behaviors? “Law and order” seems like an inapt comparison since that’s a dog whistle for racism rather than about lower crime per se

There’s some intersection between IDW and “civility fandom” I think. Civility as a classical liberal virtue signal rather than a felt consideration for others’ comfort.

yep. and I *am* a classical liberal! But I don't like the rhetorical tactic of showing off performatively good mental health, especially when it's easier for you than for your opponent. It's unchivalrous.

re: "law and order" -- that's the thing, I think it's not always a dog-whistle for racism! Some people's biggest practical problem *is* rising crime rates in their neighborhood! (might have been more true in, say, 1980's NYC).
