There are contexts in which "measure twice, cut once" makes sense. You want to have lots of safety checks before using new software in an airplane, for instance. To the extent AI safety improvements do this, e.g. things like adversarial testing for ML algorithms, that seems good.

But I see "AI risk" organizations proliferating, and promoting radically *different* concerns about completely different types of risk, some more real than others; and as long as they all have the same name, the worse ideas borrow credibility from the better.
