When I tell people LRI is funded by private donations, people are often astonished. I don't think it's that weird for individuals to donate to a charitable cause, or even to scientific research -- that's what the March of Dimes is!

I don't believe in pressuring people to give to charity if they don't want to. But it's a plain fact that many people, including a lot of rich people, are already generous donors to causes they believe in. The energy is already here.

One thing people may *not* know is that even prominent scientists often struggle to get funding for experiments (especially expensive ones like human trials or long-term animal studies).

As an individual, you can generally give a donation for a specific study by contacting the P.I. and the university grants office.
