I don't know. I'm not advocating reparations as a policy right now. I don't know how it would work or even whether it could work. This isn't my field. My point is less about reparations per se and more about the meta issue.

There are plenty of jurisdictions where buying items in good faith is sufficient to keep them (with stricter guidelines and more risk for professional buyers like pawn shops).

In practice I think full restitution is impractical and the best we can do is something like periodic land reform and debt cancellation.

it’s honestly a bit tough to see why the descendants of Neanderthals, who were (apparently) hounded to the point of extinction by Homo sapiens in Europe, don’t deserve reparations. “Because no one identifies as a Neanderthal”? Maybe, but isn’t that just “might makes right”?
