I work for a publicly university and my vote has always been. Go fully online for undergrads and offer a 25 percent discount. Grads who have lab needs can come with proper testing and safety protocols. They're a bit more responsible and some bring in funding.

It’s fun to imagine a world where universities, and all schools really, could just have said “this is dangerous, we will close until the situation improves. We’ll be fine.”

I’d much rather be fighting *with* my alma mater to pressure the House Dems to play hardball than fighting *against* them for misrepresenting the risks of a hybrid model to the entire community

My fantasy is this + if they had worked with local school districts to make their campuses -- particularly sheltered outdoor spaces -- available for preK and early elementary students to have small groups meet in person instead of 7hrs/day, 5days/wk virtual instruction for 5yos.

Oh you mean actually thinking outside the box? Or preparing for this last spring instead of thinking the virus would just magically disappear?

In all serious what would people’s reactions be if all authority had just been transparent? “Coming back isn’t safe but we can’t afford to not bring school back” Would garner a different reaction and results for sure
