In much of North America and Europe, everyone eating strictly local would mean vast swathes of forest would have to be cut for farmland. If strictly organic, the clearcutting would have to be even bigger. Funny how complications like these never make it into such articles.

I was once a fan of early ZeroHedge when it had meaningful reporting on high frequency trading. For me, it quickly jumped the shark thereafter, & became a parody of itself. Now, it is usually safe to ignore anyone who takes it seriously, so unfortunate ZH is no longer with us RIP

Here’s a tip: if you know a Chinese person, do not joke with them about coronavirus. This virus will increase scrutiny and racism towards them. It is not funny, and they should not be put in a position to pretend it is.

Newest virus meme: Python is both a programming language and a snake that eats rats and bats. Learning it leads you to lose your hair which helps protect you from the virus. Finally learning Python makes you happy to stay at home all day. So it’s a good way to fight coronavirus

this to me, is exactly the opposite. the fossil fuel companies need to be at the table, & investors have to decide how 'E' they are for 'ESG'. for some, it will be a hard 'no' - that means no investment, no dialogue, no engagement... with someone else picking up all the returns.

For anyone not following every twist in the Wuhan virus story, Zhong Nanshan is the expert who first sounded the alarm. Now saying it will peak in 7-10 days and "then there will be no large-scale increases". Far more positive than other recent predictions.

I don't think there's anything defensive at all about the 🇲🇾 market. It is front & center the poster child for a negotiated BRI infrastructure play, that on closer inspection, has more 🇺🇸🇯🇵 FDI than 🇨🇳, which tells you how quickly the former have moved, & what's still to come.

Common causes of bad decisions: 1. Assumptions from small sample sizes 2. Wanting the world to work the way we want 3. Conforming to expectations/authority/group 4. Blindness to large trends 5. Inability to determine "and then what" 6. Using incorrect maps What am I missing?

I read a lot. Something that stood out for me the year I read this was how profound this was, to read and re-read, for the many years ahead, that now seem precious & taken for granted. Please read this, it is amazing. Thank you, RIP
