"The director of the Congressional press galleries within the Senate Press office did a name check on Samuel Christopher Montoya and confirmed that no one by that name has Congressional press credentials as an individual or via any other organizations.” https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/case-multi-defendant/file/1386671/download …pic.twitter.com/7tH6XLHc2j

That’s a line that could get blurry in other cases. Not sure every single legitimate journalist who entered the Capitol necessarily had a congressional press pass.

So far, none of the charges against self-identified journalists have been as serious as the felony charges stacked against a photographer put on trial after being swept up in a police kettle on a public street on Jan. 20, 2017. (He was acquitted.)https://www.huffpost.com/entry/j20-inauguration-rioting-felony-charges-journalist-alexei-wood_n_5a0cb991e4b0c0b2f2f78aed …

The Bozell Jr. case is interesting in that his dad's outfit used to (I assume no longer but unsure) send interns who were accredited to the Hill for the Center's online site.

I’ve been interested on a purely nerd level how the FBI would handle all of the purported “journalists” there. I know from what I’ve seen many of them made no secret of their biased intent and approval of what they were filming.

Montoya's statements make it clear he views himself as one of the rioters, not a neutral observer. -He says "we" again & again. -He repeatedly expresses political opinions in support of breaching the Capitol to "show that we've had enough" & "take the people's house back."pic.twitter.com/8UNP9g7MFC

They had to have some valid verifiable reason for being there. The building was closed to the public on account of the pandemic. You couldn't just walk it because you decided you were a journalist that day. So in that particular case, no reason it should be blurred.

Yes. But there were multiple photojournalists/citizen journalists/traditional media types inside the Capitol building documenting who could now be opened up as available for arrest. Slippery slope here at a time when they're being arrested more often at other protests.
