Hey @ryangrim - when will you acknowledge on Twitter and through an official retraction of your story that you got this story COMPLETELY wrong?
The VM was not left by Gil Cisneros & you've admitted as much through a quiet & sketchy update to your story instead.https://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/989571440537194497 …

You might want to reconsider what verification means. For all we know, this entire thing was set up by the candidate who sent you the story. Journalistic malpractice.

I guess that's fraud.

Why should campaigns be forced to engage and disprove every conspiracy theory sent their way? Is the Intercept going to do a piece on Seth Rich and blame the DNC for not proving they didn't have him murdered?

Can't wait for
@ZaidJilani's pizzagate piece. Why wouldn't Podesta prove he didn't run a child trafficking ring out of a pizza parlor's basement? - 2 more replies

It is not up to a campaign to authenticate accusations and dig up the facts - that is your job. You are a disgrace to your profession.

Is there some rule that if someone doesn't reply, you get to lie about them ?

How do they prove a negative? How do they disprove a story they had nothing to do with, especially before publication when they have no idea just how disingenuous and sloppy you plan to be?

How long have you been covering politics? When was the last time a candidate called an opponent to say they were going negative? Pretty odd based on my 20+ yrs working/volunteering on campaigns. That should have been a tip off and you should have verified the authenticity first.

@ddayen (Dayen) provided a transparent explanation of what happened and admitted that the reporting came up short. His statement/explanation is an example of how a journalist maintains integrity by being forthright about mistakes.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Perhaps you should do some more foot work, and question other people before publishing a story. If all you did for a story is email someone, that’s not a good look. Isn’t this your 2nd major correction in the last 40 days
