      Juanita Perez Williams turned in more than 3,200 signatures, meaning 2,000 can be invalid and she still makes it. But in NY, it's very hard to get valid signatures, particularly with a paid rather than volunteer canvas. The petition gatherer must be have been a registered Dem /2

      ...for at least a year. The voter, meanwhile, must be a registered Democrat in that particular district. And if a voter signed two petitions, only the first one counts, and her opponent started long before her, so a bunch of those could get tossed.../3

      I did paid petitioning for a Dem in NY, two districts over, some years ago. Going door-to-door to confirmed Dems, in a similar topography, we'd average about 25-50 good signatures per person per day, iirc. If they only had 9 days to do this & padded their margins at dorms, lol.

      I don't know if Balter has the resources to aggressively challenge, however; election lawyers are not exactly cheap.
