The timing is clearly going to raise questions. But the fact that non-reporters believe their partisan analysis over actual reporting is a facet of the whole fake news problem in the first placehttps://twitter.com/joshtpm/status/968964744613900288 …

      Maggie Haberman added,

      Josh MarshallVerified account @joshtpm
Oh man, I don't want to be critical. But I can't believe that Haberman is actually going with this claim that Hicks departure is unrelated to yesterday, that she'd been thinking of leaving for some time and there's 'no perfect time.'

So wait, you're accusing @joshtpm of being part of the "fake news problem." Ah Maggie, I get in dumb Twitter fights (though less than I used to). You might need a Twitter buddy. This is just a silly tweet.

White House reporters are saying that they have strong evidence this is unrelated to yesterday, which is what my reporting says too. You guys don’t believe it. So you’re saying the new is fake. How is Maggie’s point off here?

Weird, we have another report from Erin Burnett that her departure was based on something she said in the House interview. I guess you’re saying Erin Burnett is fake news and yours is the real one Ryan.

Saying that there is conflicting reporting is different than just simply disbelieving a report with no other information to go on, right?

The original reports said she has been talking about it a long time. Told people her decision had been made over the weekend. Ryan is correct and the report that it was about the committee is inaccurate.

CNN is wrong and you are right? In a world where there’s a lot of lying, you are asking the public to unquestionably accept your judgment of whether anonymous sources are lying or not. I would respectfully suggest that to not accept it is legit skepticism, not fake news.

Respectfully, people are going to believe what they want. I am standing by my reporting, as I'm sure Erin Burnett is standing by hers. But, respectfully, choosing to believe one over the other because it fits a narrative is also dangerous.

Sure. But when there are two conflicting accounts, maybe some of us believe the news that fits a pretty clear pattern, not a narrative we like. Rather than assume otherwise, you could accept that possibility.

The White House staff lies All The Time. A public that is skeptical of reporting that relies on that sourcing is to be applauded, not shamed. Especially when multiple news sources have another explanation. You guys use the pathetic term fake news here, not me.

The Intercept is not exactly a source that’s considered relevant. It’s a little vanity project for Greenwald with an ever shrinking readership. Maybe if Glenn spent a lot less time on Twitter and more time being a journalist, he could make the Intercept into a real journal.

The issue isn’t decrying everything we don’t like as fake. It’s that extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence, and the evidence that the timing is *unrelated* to recent events isn’t extraordinary (as presented thus far).
