When I asked why Bernie Sanders was telling a story that he didn't verify and turned out not to be true, Sanders spokesperson told me he's "not a great fan of reporters who try to provoke controversy where none exists"https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/24/bernie-sanders-russian-trolls-false-story-423413 …

Just from a PR perspective, Bernie whiffed on being able to make this a huge presidential moment. He could have said that he, more than anyone, is furious about Russian attacks, using him, because they further degraded and corrupted the system he’s fighting to clean up. 1/2
-
Had he done so, he could have gone strong on Russia in a way that even the left could have embraced - likening Russian corruption to corporate corruption in campaigns, etc and saying he will lead the charge to stop it and bring to justice those who perpetrated it
-
Maybe there’s a reason he didn’t.

Maybe. I don't buy into conspiracies though. I just tend to think Bernie tends to get overly defensive sometimes, like a lot of politicians
