We covered this race here. Mallard became a teacher after realizing as a child her father, a coal miner, was illiterate, so she taught him to read. Learned her politics on the picket line with her grandfather, also a miner.https://theintercept.com/2018/01/23/dccc-democratic-primaries-congress-progressives/ …

Oh, and the two votes for Republican Rep. Scott Taylor came in 2016. Not some ancient history.

Important Point #2: Of the 24 candidates the DCCC has selected nationwide, there appear to be NO African Americans on the list:https://redtoblue.dccc.org/

Context matters
@ryangrim. The Democrat opposing the Republican had no campaign (raised $28k) and was charged with stealing $400,000 from a federal program to help feed low income kids when schools are on summer break. Facing that or a Republican is probably vote R too. - 2 more replies

Which one has the better chance to win the seat. Screw losing gloriously. That won’t do the people of that district any good.
-
Yeah b/c Democrats are just so good at winning shamelessly ... /s We've already lost gloriously
#1000seats It's time for the shameless to lose and winning will be glorious. Which side are you on? -
Try to stay focused on 2018. Democrats are doing quite well. I will vote for who ever I think has the best chance to win the general election. A Democratic pet rock is infinitely better than any Republican candidate these days.
-
Chances of winning in the general are irrelevant if they dont support policy you want/need. Want money out of politics? An establishment Dem is as likely as a Republican to vote that way (slim chance). I vote policy, not teams and party colors. Most independents do ...
-
MLK also worked with and supported JFK and LBJ. Unlike you he wasn’t a starry eyed idealist. He kept his eye on the prize. The Dems who win in 2018 will be like Northam-liberals focused on winning, not on leftist purism.
-
wtaf? Do you even remember history? He pushed JFK b/c he was POTUS ... MLK didnt help JFK get elected ... Do you think Dems of today would welcome MLK, a publicly sworn Democratic Socialist, with open arms?
-
So much for MLK not being for purity tests in Democrats: https://www.scribd.com/doc/134362247/Martin-Luther-King-Jr-The-Three-Evils-of-Society-1967#scribd …pic.twitter.com/greSbkC2mz

Even in 1963 he was testing purity: http://www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen/Letter_Birmingham.html …pic.twitter.com/ImgJ6NsusN

Important Point #1: Luria contributed $17,000 to Ralph Northam's gubernatorial campaign and an additional $10,000 to Northam's gubernatorial inaugural committee. Northam was just elected Governor last November. https://www.vpap.org/donors/289932-elaine-luria/ …

Any evidence that Luria's POLICIES aren't progressive? I'm a Democrat in the district and I strongly considered not voting for the Democratic candidate that year. Shaun Brown was notoriously incompetent, had no campaign except for a campaign manager who was super racist.
-
Also, lay off the DCCC conspiracies. Remember how terribly a similar situation worked out for Governor Ralph Northam?
