Given the status of the Special Counsel investigation, that would not actually be a good thing. Sessions is a terrible AG, sure, but his recusal also protects Robert Mueller. And a replacement as AG would likely be both terrible AND fire Mueller.

That said, it's unclear whether such an AG nominee could win confirmation now. I'm betting there's more than 3 sitting (R) senators who would vote against. Plus, if Mueller is fired without cause, he may be able to sue for reinstatement and win.

If Mueller is fired without a very good reason, I hope people around the country would spontaneously protest. That's probably the only thing that will stop them.

I'm sure there would be. The question is where and how big. If it's limited to the coastal states, or isn't absolutely massive, it won't be enough.

It would be massive in the blue states, which might wake up the Ds in Congress & at state/city levels. Most big cities in the red states voted D or mixed. Some R voters are waking up, as special elections show. I hope firing Mueller would be a tipping point.

Make no mistake trump wants sessions out so he can nominate a new AG. Moore mess gives him a way.

If Moore wins, the GOP will face a backlash so strong they will be out of power by 2020. And with the census coming up, Dems could undo the national gerrymandering.
