You know, I heard someone make an interesting point today. It's about medical costs and the GOP health care bill.

Just because people no longer have insurance — particularly the low-income folks losing Medicaid — that doesn't mean people won't get sick.

We're going to have a lot of people losing health insurance who just aren't going to get the preventive care they need or will go into debt.

This bill does nothing of substance to address rising medical costs. We'll just have a lot of people not taking care of themselves.

And fewer insured people means worse preventative care. But eventually we all pay for the uninsured person's heart attack.

Without mandates, the folks who buy coverage will be those who truly need it. You've heard Republicans talk about the "death spiral"? Well..

The tax credits aren't enough to compel a young healthy person to buy insurance, and they're insufficient for an older sick person.
