1. Inspired by @yeselson & @KathaPollitt I want to think a little about the class angle of the anti-vaccination movement.
@dsquareddigest @HeerJeet Davies, how do you explain the overlap with the anti-GMO folks? That's nutrition yet same paranoia persists

@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet I should distinguish between the greens (very legit concerns) and the foodies -
-
@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet point is anti-vaxxers are often also afraid of eating GMOs, in my experience. -
@ryangrim@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet I see this too. It's a fear of chemicals or anything that's not 'natural'. -
@kateality@ryangrim@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet People always forget that almost everything is a chemical. Sad really.

@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet Replace that with "Big Pharma" and you've made their case -
@ryangrim@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet exactly. Q is: what makes the anti-vax authorities more trustworthy to them? They have skin in game too. -
@kateality@ryangrim this is backwards. question is; what is it about vaccination programs that works so much worse than other public health -
@dsquareddigest@ryangrim most other programs don't have that as a starting point. -
@kateality@ryangrim well, polio and smallpox didn't have this problem -
@dsquareddigest@kateality we don't vaccinate for smallpox anymore because of the danger/benefit calculation -
@ryangrim@dsquareddigest and because it's been eradicated.

@ryangrim@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet recently saw anti-Vaxxer comment that she won't endanger her kid to protect gmo-fed weaklings. -
@ryangrim@dsquareddigest@HeerJeet funny, I had no idea it was all the GMOs in the 1940s that caused polio outbreaks (sarc)
