They're not saints. Simpson and Bowles have harmed the economy. http://www.businessinsider.com/lets-talk-about-the-harm-that-simpson-and-bowles-have-caused-the-economy-2013-2 …
@JoshuaGreen Cutting entitlements longterm (it) reduces the need for revenue and keeps taxes low and inequality up

@ryangrim Not the way I'd do it. Means test, redirect to pre-K, EITC, etc., and throw in some loophole closings, too. -
@JoshuaGreen what's the difference between means testing & raising taxes on the rich, other than one being a nightmare administratively? -
@ryangrim Why's it either/or? You could means test Medicare, close high-end loopholes and be doubly better off -
@JoshuaGreen You could, but you wouldn't be doubly better off, unless they figure out a way to means-test in a more cost effective way. -
@ryangrim Haven't done reporting, but how hard can it be to push Medicare age to 67 for, say, $250K earners and above? -
@JoshuaGreen@ryangrim That change would be of negligible help to the budget while putting foot in the door toward harmful changes. -
@GregAnrig@JoshuaGreen any means testing that's easy to administer will probably net you chump change, like that one would -
@ryangrim@GregAnrig How much would it net? - 5 more replies
