What's the win-loss record under the group currently running the show? I think it's pretty good.

Well yes, Michael Steele oversaw the 2010 wave. Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time.

So they're bad at winning elections even when they win elections? OK.

Also the DNC has barely played in these special elections. That’s not really their role. But if you wanna credit Tom Perez with the coming potential wave, ok.

You're the one who thinks the DNC's management is a very important story worthy of many, many pieces. But if you're saying it's primarily a fundraising org that doesn't set policy or have all that much impact on people's lives, then we're in agreement.

There's a bottom line here. There's nothing more dog-bites-man than 'party committee will support vulnerable incumbents' -- of course they will -- and if you look at the mentions and quote-tweets on that you'll see unbridled outrage over it, including people with lots of...

Repro rights has become a non-negotiable item; voting for Republican SCOTUS nominees isn't. Plus, we expect them to overturn Roe, but that's not guaranteed and you don't have to be anti-choice to vote for confirmation, especially if they already have 51 votes and you're just CYA.

But you can see how somebody might reasonably think repro rights being non-negotiable extends to SCOTUS picks who are anti-Roe, right?

I guess it's a hook to hang your hat on if you want to make the banal fact that parties support vulnerable incumbents into something more than that. Also, we both know that the DNC isn't bound to things Perez says during interviews. They'll back Casey if he's the nom in 2024.

I would think at this point it's obvious that having national politicians who don't tow the overwhelming party line on things like Abortion, Medicare For All, and even Legalization are clear causes of apathy. People like to pretend these races exist only in their districts.

They don't, and people like Manchin, Heitkamp, and Donnelley all do real damage to the Democratic brand, which impacts down and up race ballots in other states, let alone in their own states.

It's well past time for the DNC and state parties to start thinking about the party like a product they are marketing, having consistent on brand messaging is marketing 101.
