Kavanaugh even lied about his connections to Yale: “I have no connections there. I got there by busting my tail.” See this yearbook. He was legacy; his grandfather went there. What pathetic perjury. https://theintercept.com/2018/09/29/the-unbearable-dishonesty-of-brett-kavanaugh/ …pic.twitter.com/NvzyYfGfEX

He’s claiming here that he got into Yale Law School with no connections. YLS certainly took into account in the 1980s if you were legacy. On second thought, I don’t think he was lying. I think he truly believes he hit a triple, even though we all know he was born on third base.

A relative attending is hardly a “connection”.

It’s called legacy. It is taken into account in admissions. Or it was in the 1980s. It’s how the elite reproduces itself along family lines in an allegedly meritocratic society.

We know from his Yale classmates he did not spend his undergrad years only at the library “busting his tail”

Paul. You don't know what you're talking about. At least as late as the late 1990s, you got an extra "point" on your admissions if you were a legacy. That was worth a lot, actually, as there were only 12. You had to get at least 11 to get in. So at 10 pts, it got you in.

I'm being told that his grandfather went to Yale College, not Yale Law. I don't recall that getting you any official points for YLS admission. HOWEVER, the idea that his having gone to Yale College didn't help getting into Yale Law is preposterous. YC grads were overrepresented.

The proportion of Yale College grads in my class at YLS was roughly the same IIRC (I'd have to see our class roster to be certain): it seemed like 1/4 - 1/3 were from Yale College. Tons more from Harvard. Smattering of other schools.pic.twitter.com/Qk2MIIeafS

It obviously made a difference if you went to Yale College. I know that some undergraduates already had the ambition to go to Yale Law and preferentially chose Yale College to help them get in.
