I'm genuinely saddened by this attempt to discredit me as in the pocket of Facebook. Attack the process or my intelligence all you want but the smear implicit in "allegedly independent" is a low blow.https://twitter.com/ryangrim/status/1042781113175957504 …

The head of @Facebook's allegedly independent fact-checking body admits to CJR that Facebook "recommended" they allow The Weekly Standard into their fact check club, even though it didn't meet their standards at the time. This is such a farce. https://www.cjr.org/the_new_gatekeepers/the-weekly-standard-facebook.php?ct=t(Top_Stories_CJR_new_Jan_26_1_25_2017_COPY_01 …) pic.twitter.com/mndq3oztEa

If @ryangrim bothered doing any research he'd have found that I have been on the record against Facebook attempts to hide behind the @factchecknet processhttps://twitter.com/Mantzarlis/status/853278962759421952 …

      2. While you may get the impression from the piece that I understand FB had to move because our process is slow, this was my response pic.twitter.com/YReCBbT1aW

I've also consistently and almost obnoxiously called on them to publish data on this product so it can be externally audited. Again, nothing new to those who actually follow this matter.

One year ago almost to this day I was being shouted at by a Facebook flak ~while evacuating from Hurricane Irma~ for being particularly unimpressed with them in a POLITICO piece. But sure, call me a sell-out because it suits your agenda.

Attack the rules as pig-headed, inconsistent or too lax. Attack me as dumb, weak-willed or naive. But there's really no need to attack my integrity. Thank you.

To say that your operation is not independent from FB is not to challenge your integrity, but the structure. For instance, if in media a biz side person approached an editor with a story idea, that would be a huge internal scandal. FB recommended TWS to you. That’s not ok.

Your analogy is off. They have no sway on our process. The fact that it was inappropriate of them to reach out (it was, and I very much made it clear) didn’t mean that we had any benefit/motive to act in it — as the editor might do on the biz side’s recommendation

The process, for anyone who wants to find out more, doesn’t involve FB. As of course it shouldn’t: https://ifcncodeofprinciples.poynter.org/process

If you’re going after genuine Macedonian produced fake news, why endanger the integrity of whole project by letting TWS attack a liberal outlet?
