as an aside, this past week is a reminder of just how crafty and good @ryangrim is at his job

Friend, it's really time to look in a mirror and really think about how you came to be in the position of outing a victim of sexual assault who wanted to remain anonymous by writing a hit piece on Feinstein that aged incredibly poorly.

You also gotta love the classic journalistic trope implicit in that tweet: Some people are calling me X, others are saying I'm not X! I must be in the middle of those extremes and doing something right! I'm clearly just a neutral observer.

The “I get criticized by both sides so I must have been right” is the laziest cop-out tool in the journalist’s bag, always employed to avoid self-reflection.

Fair? Fair to who? You are taking the power out of the survivors hands. Retraumatization. Then blaming Dianne Feinstein and then the victim has to defend herself because reporters are hunting her down. The only way a victim becomes a Survivor is when we take control back.

My least favorite twitter is Reporters Circle The Wagons twitter. The really great writers are those who are able to self-reflect - I'm seeing a complete refusal to even consider that from these three. That's how hacks are made.

Being part of outing a victim that didn't want to be outed is shitty. Have some journalistic integrity.

All sexual assault survivors curse you and your shoody excuse for journalism today, Mr. Aptly Named Grim. Especially those of us who are journalists AND sexual assault survivors. May you have the disturbed sleep that haunts us. Forever.
