Our

Following Bernie's trend of sexy one-liner that lacks actual substance. Wall Street bailout - $32 billion Cost of bailing out all student loans - $1,500 billion
-
If you're serious, here's the substance: http://www.levyinstitute.org/publications/the-macroeconomic-effects-of-student-debt-cancellation … If you're going to cost out the bailout based on money returned to the treasury, you have to do the same for bailing out students, who will also pay society and the government back in myriad ways. See above.

As a liberal, I'm a little upset by this whole 'cancel all student debt'. We're working hard to pay off ours... When we eventually do in five years time, they're just going to cancel everyone else's debt? What about refunding those who actually were responsible?
-
I don’t know man. Gen Xer here, and I think millennials are totally getting screwed—soaring costs, stagnate wages, crap jobs. Anyone who is working to help them out gets my vote.
-
Yes, but many of us are frugal, making sacrifices now to make ends meet be and repay loans. Those of us who are making those sacrifices are basically going to have nothing to show for it.
-
Good point. Let’s make sure everybody else has nothing to show for anything, too. At least then it’s equal. Among the people who have nothing.
-
Or, cancel debt AND repay those who have been sacrificing to make repayments. Or is that too liberal and too socialist?
-
That too

Please let's push "cancel all student debt" as the next big progressive policy to make mainstream for democrats.
-
hell yea
-
Not sure you’re poking fun but yeah, perked my ears up.
-
student debt abolition and free tuition are very important ingredients for a vision of the future that views education as a fundamental right

That’s 1.5 trillion dollars. You add that to the 32 trillion for M4A and the insistence on not raising taxes on anyone but the rich and you get a lot of nonsense.
-
You forgot slashing the defense budget.
-
A worthy goal, what will that save at best? 100 billion a year? 200?
-
-
7.9 trillion over 50 years is bad and the wars should be ended. But it still doesn’t cover the shortfall.
-
Most of that money never left Virginia
-
That doesn’t particularly change the point.
