Do we even need to say "political" economy of DC? Wouldn't it impact the whole business model that runs the town.

well that's what a political economy is, really, which is different than a "politics economy"

Interrupting some business-as-usual practices of the thoroughly corrupt bribe-based fascist-leaning kleptocracy is presented as a “radical” idea. The rot is so deep it is seen as normal.

Until a grassroots movement calls a Constitutional Convention to Amend the Constitution to overturn Citizens United, this is about the best we can hope to achieve to that end.
-
Why would you hope to achieve this legislation with a Republican Congress? Why do politicians only post good ideas when they have NO POWER to enact them? Doesn’t that seem a little too convenient to happen so often?
-
There's a populist wave in this country that is stronger than any blue or red wave. Anti-corruption legislation will hurt anyone who shoots it down in 2018. Maybe. Just a thought. Though, you have a point. Doing nothing while looking busy is an art in Washington.

All the documentaries I’ve seen, all the books I’ve read, it’s painfully obvious to me that corruption is our model of economics. The history of the system’s construction is long, & very disturbing. If Americans knew the story, they’d be rioting.

Marx had at least one thing correct, populism and revolution is cyclical. The issue is that the people in power know that as well, and they do everything they can to placate and do just enough to ebb social anger.
-
Well said.... Here is a really good short doc on what you’re referring to. Maybe you have seen it.https://youtu.be/p8ERfxWouXs

I have not, but I will definitely look into it. I love new ideas on anything. Have you read Dune by Frank Herbert? It’s SciFi, but the themes are universal and heavily geopolitical. I highly recommend it.
-
The book I spoke of is on Audible, as an audiobook. I recommend that if you don’t have the time to actually read it manually. I got through it in my car going cross-country. It is a big book, but well worth the read. Now if I can only find Tragedy and Hope on audiobook.

Why didn’t she do this when the Dems has the majority? Also, why did she just yell at the bankers who committed fraud and crashed the economy? She needed to ensure they went to jail. She talks a big game, but she is dancing around with a daisy in her mouth when action is needed.

This has to be a key part of the strategy for the Dems in 2018/2020.

Not my favorite person in politics, but I can get on board with this. Maybe she can add term limits and a prohibition on lobbying for all elected officials for at least 10 years after term. It'd be interesting to find out how she attained a net worth of somewhere north of $8mil.
-
She was an attorney then a Harvard professor then she wrote a bunch of books.
-
That's good to know. And would all of that add up to $8mil +? I don't begrudge her that, I just wonder how all of our politicians become millionaires on a public servant's salary.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if they pretty much all dabble in some light insider trading at a minimum. I assume it's hard to avoid being informed of "investment opportunities" when you work in those circles.
-
Yes, probably. I imagine it would be hard not to given what appears to be the tradition of flawed character that seems to permeate our elected establishment.
