Bottom up means the poor and working class can participate in politics in a meaningful way. Democracy would be another term for it.

And those who have no clue what their talking about. Got it!
-
Yes, there have always been elements like yourself who are nervous about true democracy, and it manifests in attacks like this on the intelligence or worthiness of regular people to participate in government
-
Ok, don't start throwing attack around like I care that much about you. If you can't twitter, don't tweet. But keep that shit factory working.

I’d much rather have this, with all the flaws that need to be worked through, rather than private events that cost thousands to be a part of.

+ it really highlights the deference and free pass that much of the media is willing to give to candidates when it comes to private meetings with big money donors. Toxic for our politics indeed.
-
How should reporters cover political fundraisers that are closed to reporters? I try to get an invitation and write what the ticket prices are, citing the invitation. I don't attend.
-
You don’t have to cover fundraisers. The point is that “closed press” only seems OK if you have the money to buy it.

Its way better than thinking through politics based entirely on focus-group tested responses and the advise of a consultant class who only wants to maximize their profits by selling ads instead of selling policy

Precisely why I voted for
@Ocasio2018 - unexpectedly met her at a community event and we had a genuine conversation about what engaging constituents can and should look like, warts and all. I'm confident she'll continue with this approach, which is just what I want from my rep. - End of conversation

New ? Isn't all political progress bottom up ?
-
Tell that to the Democratic Party who didnt seem to care they were losing over 1000 legislative seats across the country as long as they had the Presidency
-
I know it goes against the grain ( of white entitlement to the government they want without any work) but actually the people lost their Democrat representation. The people in red states didn't shift forward, they lost out on decent reps

Had an LOL moment, here.... You do realize if HRC or one of her supporters. did same you would not be so magnanimous... So I must question the motive behind your statement. Is it the Bernie factor?
-
Probably. Although, maybe it's the Alexandria factor. She's pretty amazing.
-
I'm giving this a like in hopes you're right... but it comes with a healthy skepticism: 1) for all things Bernie touches... 2) her apparent lack of preparation re: some impromptu questions addressed in recent presser.
-
1) Yes. 2) TBH I haven't been following that closely, but yeah, she's pretty green. OTOH, it seems like she owns her mistakes & works to learn from them & do better in the future. I read her apology & statement about the town hall meeting; it took me a few minutes to process...
-
how extraordinary it was. I don't know what presser you're referring to (I did a quick search but didn't see anything). Regardless, every campaign has missteps; until a few weeks ago she was a bartender basically running as the dark horse in a local election...
-
Now she is a major, nationally known political figure in a key race with huge implications. Virtually overnight she went from receiving NO COVERAGE in the NY Times to being in the public eye 24f*cking7. On top of that, for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that...
-
she's an intelligent, charismatic, popular WOC running on what they see as an enormously threatening platform, she has been absolutely excoriated by the right. She has been relentlessly criticized for trivial shit by people who are ignoring or abetting Trump's open corruption.
-
That was totally & completely predictable, but it's still infuriating. OTOH, she had them scared shitless, so that's good. Anyway, I've kinda lost track of where I was heading with this, but I'm sure you get my point & are now convinced - inspired, even - to cut her some slack.pic.twitter.com/WYxXZyKMUj
