"It is often [wrongly, incorrectly, manipulatively, destructively, pruriently, ignorantly, deceptively and shamefully] conflated with sex trafficking,..." There, fixed it. Otherwise good article. About time @theintercept does something remotely progressive.

She originally wrote falsely but I edited that out because conflate, as far as I’ve always used it, is a false combination of different things. That not how everybody uses it?

According to the hive mind, its etymology indicates the opposite. Perhaps a hearty adjective is in order, as th erroneous lumping of sex work & sex trafficking is inappropriate, an ignorant presumption, & errodes the rights of both groups. https://www.google.com/search?q=conflate+etylomology&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari …

Thanks for asking. I would have thought 'falsely' is appropriate, even if sounds redundant, but I'd prefer a stronger word. 'Treacherously' would not be inappropriate, nor hyperbolic. In the context of christian supremacists, anti sex worker legislation cld b expanded ruthlessly.

Are we supporting pro hookers and former hookers to represent the people? Hookers are the most capitalistic & self serving people on earth. Watch out liberals 😂, I can’t wait for the next rodeo to start 🤠

We should be pushing for more freedom and less discrimination is all aspects of life. What individuals choose to do with these rights, short of harming others or their property, shouldn't be anyone else's business. It takes a village to create a police state.

No “work” but legalized abuse. The “right” to be sexually used/objectified - a position always inhabited by the least powerful in our society. The neoliberalisation of bodies, usually female. Terrifying. Smh. @RachelMorris

But to be forced to work for minimum wage doing the most back breaking and soul sucking jobs is perfectly acceptable. Go pick fruits and vegetables in the hot sun, clean restrooms, work in slaughter houses and dig ditches for a few decades and then come back and I'll listen.

There are many Federal laws that oppress sex workers, but the bulk are still state and local. @LarrySharpe is running for governor as a #Libertarian , & the @LPNational platform explicitly calls for the complete #decriminalization of #sexwork . If you support that, support Larry.

If “democratic socialism” ruled the day, I’d place my bets on harsher punishment for sex work not more leniency. Minority views and individualism get short shrift in a winner takes all vote.

I think you have a narrow idea of the services 'sex workers' provide. I've seen documentaries showing people with physical disabilities or overweight, using their 'service'. Is not a black and white issue. Is the oldest profession. Imagine why is that.(no, I don't use their serv)
