One nice detail among many: After the 2016 election, @NaureenAkhter tried to join her local Dem Party. But it was a closed-off club, so she joined @Ocasio2018.
Local Dem orgs should take note, but probably won’t.https://twitter.com/naureenakhter/status/1014539557713448964 …

I tried reaching out to my local Dem club. They said they would inform me of their meetings but til this day haven’t heard back.

this is what I'm trying to get to the bottom of. The language (from both of them) suggests a purposeful shutting out, rather than what quite possibly might have been a clerical error. How does a phone call or email left unanswered translate to "lack of transparency"?

I also tried joining county committee - no info available on the county org’s site. Had to keep asking around until a local activist who had knowledge of the process filled me in - by now I was months into the ocasio campaign

It should not be hard for people who want to join and help a political party to do so. Unless the party is comfy with how things are.
