Here’s one thing on the tipped minimum wage. Servers/bartenders are required to come early and stay late to do “side work” like fill salt and pepper shakers, then clean up, etc. I always hated knowing I was getting $2.13/hr to do that. Pay a real wage or fill ur own salt shaker

did you work as a server because you had to or was this a Paul Ryan summer job/ "don't *want* to depend on my parents" thing?

of course it matters if you experience the existential dread of being poor or if you're cosplaying like 90% of journalists who are usually from middle and upper class families because poor people can't afford the job

I didn't ask for specifics, though I find it pretty amazing that a supposedly progressive journalist from a poor background finds it offensive that other poor people are interested in the socio-economic background of successful journalists – if it makes you feel better

I didn’t read it as interest, I read it as an assumption. Which, given the stats, was actually a reasonable assumption. So apologies for being rude about it

I try not to be rude to anybody. I fail all the time. Then apologize, then repeat
