Apparently HP remotely disabled perfectly good ink cartridges because I don’t pay a monthly fee? For the first time in my life I have a mechanically reliable printer and just got owned by a subscription.

Related, anyone have a printer they recommend that doesn’t do this nonsense? If the subscription saved me from grossly overpaying for ink I’d consider it. But I still grossly overpay for ink because I’m an American and office supply extortion is part of our birthright.

UPDATE: I don’t have a SoundCloud but please please direct the printer energy to supporting the emergency responders in Australia

An open ink printer would be a good kickstarter project

Epson Ecotank. Buy a bottle of ink. Fill up the ink tank.

I stopped giving HP any of my money years ago when buying new printers was cheaper than refills. I take my ass to kinkos or whatever.
-
Same. Bought a cheap but decent black and white laser printer for home, and if I really need something fancy I just go get it printed.

The printer world is a wild west of scams and companies siphoning every penny from unknowing consumers

Yep. I had an HP printer/scanner a while back. when the ink ran out i didnt care because I thought I could still use it for scanning and just print at my college campus for a small fee But! The scanner was disabled and it demanded new ink before it would let me scan. Hahaha

That is just evil.
