Meanwhile the price hasn't changed at Safeway or Fred Meyer so I think it's corona overkill

actually, it's that they're low stock. A friend sells on Amazon, and they charge you if you run out of stock, so what some do is jack the price on the few remaining items, high enough nobody will pay it, until they get re-stocked, then you don't get hit with the charge.
