BREAKING NEWS!!! In the first ever randomized clinical trial, we demonstrated that parachutes did NOT prevent death or major injury compared to control in individuals jumping from aircraft. most understanding IRB of all time (Credit to Alan Lisbon and Jessie Ripton). They got the humor - but it took a few meetings and LOTS of explaning. Plus we had an exclusion it we deemed the person to lack rational decision making capacity.

Tell me. How did you get your IRB approval for this trial design? What if there is a crazy person who agreed to be randomized jumping off the plane in the sky with or without a parachute? 🤣

Haha we had an out clause if investigators deemed the individual to not be making a rational decision. - it was obviously rigged from the start. But actually many trials have similar provisions for investigators to use their discretion to exclude patients.
