Sadly, I'm not entirely sure this will hurt him in Florida. It may simply galvanize conservative support for him there.

Probably, but it'll hurt with Florida's independent contigent, which is larger than in some states if I remember correctly. There's no penalty for this within the GOP base, but outside of it is very different.
