If #Bitcoin confuses you, it's important to remember that we're trying to change *accepted social norms*. That's weird, slow and confusing. In my Linux days we were dealing with "that's not how you construct software", Bitcoin is "that's not how you construct money". 1/7

50th 🎂. I keep feeling high-energy from hanging with all you younger, cooler people: the energy is infectious, even when you're wrong. ❤️

Anyone have a historic list of closed #LightningNetwork public short-channel-ids to node pairs? People have asked for #CLN to remember old, closed channels, and it turns out we often do, but we forget peer id. We could restore those, where it was public, at least!

I find 's "ratecard" proposal more interesting FWIW: you advertise 4 different fee rates, and which applies depends on capacity. So if you're in a hurry, just pay top rate (if that fails, there really is no capacity). Otherwise you can retry on a higher rate.

In the end I'm not convinced this change is necessary, that it will make things easier for node operators, or that it will be popular. But there's no actual spec proposal in the repo that is can see?

Ideally, a node would tell you the rate for every in/out channel pair, as an arbitrary formula of amount, cltv delay or whatever. But that's 10,000 formulae if you have 100 channels, which is a lot. So we started simple;

Ok, let's talk about routing fees!

lnd yet again ignores feedback to needlessly hobble features they're shipping. Because twitter hid my previous tweet, here's the full contents from a better platform (mastodon), also cross-posted to nostr. Follow me on one of those. github.com/lightningnetwo

Building is hard. But few things genuinely worthwhile are easy. (Also, this is the kind of thing you need someone smart enough to pull it off, and dumb enough to try! That's Jack :)

I just published Strike Commerce Update I’ve always believed in building in the open and in collaboration with the #bitcoin community. Transparency about progress, where we do well, and where I can do better. I appreciate this community, always ✊❤️ link.medium.com/kLguhH72bwb

Not sure if brilliant or just weird! But it's groovy crossover fanfiction either way!

I'm setting up a 5 million sat bounty for an alternative @Core_LN pay plugin written in #Rustlang using @lightningdevkit. We need a way to experiment with different routing algorithms and CLN's plugin systems combined with LDK is an excellent foundation. gist.github.com/elsirion/8c145

Day 2 of a "three hour" project building climbing equipment for the kids. Guessing time estimate was made by software engineer, then adjusted by marketing...

Note VC thinking: it's not the tech, it's the excitement! Especially other VCs' excitement. This is how you exploit them, whether you're FTX or Theranos (or ofc someone with actual tech!)

The striking thing about the reaction to ChatGPT is not just the number of people who are blown away by it, but who they are. These are not people who get excited by every shiny new thing. Clearly something big is happening.

Ladies and gentlemen, please start your engines. We're getting closer to the v22.11 release of , but we need one last round of testing before we can tag it: v22.11rc3 introduces two new optimizations and backward compatibility fixes

Stuck at home and bored? How about giving v22.11 a spin, and help us test our upcoming release? We just tagged the latest release candidate, and if all goes well the final release will follow some time next week 🌩

Again, FTX was just speed-running the Binance story, boosted by US VC. People keep conflating claimed size with trustworthiness. Also, contagion is real and unmappable until after disaster. Take self-custody (or cash out to an actual bank), if you're not an expert trader.

Oh fuck no. The old scammers were less polished than the new scammers, but let's stay right away from all of them, ok?

Love this redemption story for Mark. Yes, he fucked up and people still don’t have their money back (thanks to @vessenes) but @MagicalTux is a true believer and crypto OG who genuinely cares about the space, not a megalomaniac grifter. FTX is 20x worse by $ and affected users. twitter.com/MagicalTux/sta…

Note the paper also has a scheme to protect against long-lived HTLCs (vs. short ones which prepay fees cover), which is actually much simpler, and peer-local, so simply requires deployment and v. little configuration.
